The
Southern Costa Blanca
Torrevieja
Torrevieja has a long seafaring
tradition, consistent climate, excellent beaches and a vibrant town,
it is also proud that it does not cater for the package holiday. The
old fishing port still retains much of its original charm and
character with its own harbour and fishing fleets. Torrevieja has some of
Europe’s
most beautiful beaches, from long
sandy stretches to bays with rugged cliffs. The major beaches have been awarded
the exclusive EEC flag. In the
town you will find many restaurants, shops and bars and the recent addition
of a new promenade. The market on Friday is full of splendid banter where
you will find everything from leather jackets, shoes and bags, ceramics,
textiles and a wonderful selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, all at
a fraction of the UK price. Whatever you desire
you will find it here in Torrevieja.
Santa Pola
Eighteen kilometres south of Alicante, Santa Pola combines several
features, which make it the summer resort par excellence. It is surrounded
by several miles of lovely beaches of fine sand, has a port and a castle.
The port of Santa Pola is a fascinating place, it is home to the Mediterranean’s
largest deep sea and coastal fishing fleet, and is the main embarkation
point to the Isla de Tabarca, a wonderful little island in the bay. Santa
Pola is also famous for its salt flats, miles of protected wetlands, which
are an important habitat for many species of bird. With the continuing
commercial salt production, this area is an important source of revenue
and natural beauty.
Pilar de la Horadada
Pilar de la Horadada has everything for you
to enjoy sea and sun, the climate is typically Mediterranean with
average annual temperatures of 18°, gentle breezes and more than
3,200 hours of sunshine a year. The coastline of
Pilar de la Horadada is more than 4kms long with very differing scenery.
There are wide beaches of fine white sand
whose purity has earned them the EEC Flag. The sea here is peaceful;
the beaches are safe and the transparent
waters and good visibility provide sub-aqua divers with marine areas
full of life within the andy floors and small rocky
outcrops. The land around Pilar de la Horadada allows the practice
of all sports, there are gentle routes for family
cycle outings and there are several coastal routes suitable for walking
or cycling.
Orihuela Costa
Situated to the south of Torrevieja, Orihuela
Costa is renowned for excellent golf courses such as Villamartin, Las
Ramblas and Campoamor. The southernmost of the Costa Blanca’s
beaches are found in the municipality of
Orihuela stretching from Punta Prima to Mil Palmeras via Playa Flamenca,
La Zenia, Cabo Roig and Campoamor. Near Cabo Roig’s historic watchtower
there are excellent restaurants with views across the bay to La Manga.
Orihuela Costa offers a wide range of dining and entertainment options.
